No, it's just more about those that are quick to point a finger at every perceived injustice and criticize but are not self-aware enough to understand that if they were personally involved and it directly affected them it would be an entirely different thing again .

im sure there are many like that but there are many others who stand by what they are preaching.
the builder was not required to come and suckle at the public teat but he choose to do so ...if he had not there would be no issue .

This quote reads like something right out of Fox News LOL but you know what, I will agree with your take on this except to say that the more I find out about this situation, there really is not an "issue" at all. Some folks decided to go digging for an issue where one did not exixst.

yes i borrowed it from FNC..but they only use it when it refers to the poor and social programs.
City Hall is looking to change New York's zoning laws
The problem lies in a 2009 loophole to the city’s Inclusionary Housing Program that allows developers like Extell access to subsidies if they construct affordable housing units, either on- or off-site. Developers have constructed a wall between market-rate buyers and affordable housing tenants, wired separate electrical systems, and built separate elevator systems, Norvell said. Topping it off with separate entrances, there are essentially two separate buildings, but the affordable housing units were classified as “off-site.”
loopholes

That is exactly what I was saying earlier. It is really two seperate buildigs under one roof. One for owners of units and one for renters. The rental unitsare sectioned off and can be managed by a total separate entitiy than those who have anything to do with the purchased units thus the need to have the units serviced by a seperate entrance way. It would make sense to give the owners or the units who paid $2,000 per sq. ft. the access to the so called "rich door" entrance and the renters who paid under the going rental rate access to the seperate so called "poor door" entrance.
The two doors are used to service the two seperate parts of the building depending on whether you own a unit or rent a unit.
Rich, I know the developers received incentives from taxpayer money to construct the building in such a way but really is it such a bad thing. It brings in lower income folks to live in the same neigbourhood as those who are upper income earners and it does provide more affordable housing for some.
why is the developer of this building LEGALLY required to have separate entrances ?? source document for that please.
the city needs to stop handing out these controversial tax breaks and stop outsourcing the building of affordable housing to these developers, and make repairs to existing affordable housing units. hundreds if not thousands of these units have been empty for years because they need to be repaired.

A non-issue if there was ever one.
the issue is the developer found a way to circumvented the intent of the rules and constructed it in this way to "game" the system..that is where the complaint lies.

OK thanks for that. I thought the complaint was that people were being segregated and having to use two seperate entrances, depending on their wealth (or lack of).

The reason is that there could be two seperate companies managing the building, one for the rental part and one for the ownership part. The actually built it so that except for the roof they share, one area could be seperate from the other so that they can be managed independently. They don't even share the same wiring etc... .
To me this sounds like it brings folks who cannot afford large rents into a neighbourhood that is fairly upscale, I think that it is a good thing and if anything it makes people feel and live less segregated from each other. But that is just me.

so you bring them close but not too close

The article in th New York Post mentions that the residents using the "rich door" and swimming pool etc.. are condo OWNERS (purchase price, approx. $2,000 per sq./ft.). Those using the "poor door" are RENTERS (rents will be approx. $10 - $15 per. sq. ft. per year, ABOUT A QUARTER OF THE GOING RENTAL RATES). Those using the "poor door" are those that make less money obviously but have an opportunity to live on the upper west side with views of the Hudson River.
The difference alone of RENTERS who have no vested interest on the conditions of common areas vs. condo OWNERS who want to make sure the condition of their common areas are upkept is huge.
If some of you folks OWNED a condo in this building I suspect you would come down off your high horse pretty quick to fit under the that "rich door".
BTW. The developer of this building was legally required to have separate entrances, I notice that was never brought up.
Rich I would love to see your reaction if they put up a sign next door to you saying that a low income coop housing building was goingt to be built there and it was going to cause your properrty value to sink. I'm sure you would be the first to jump for joy. LOL!

If i lived in a condo how would the income of my neighbour affect my property value?
cif that dis happen would it be reasonable for me to expect that the lower income residents not be allowed to use the park ?
